The ultimate guide to vintage shopping in Paris
In March 2023, I found myself itching for some adventure. A family trip got canceled last minute, leaving me with two free weeks and nothing to do. Then, I saw a cheap flight to Paris and thought, “Why not?”
When I got off the plane in Paris, I was super excited. I couldn’t believe I had actually done it. I was shocked at how easy it was to just book a flight online and then get to travel. As a kid, I had always thought planning a trip would be way more difficult than it really was.
Navigating the train station after leaving the airport was a whole experience in itself. Growing up in Ottawa, I had never really used a subway or train before—let alone navigating one in another country that doesn't speak my language. My French was a bit rusty, and the whole experience was very chaotic. Luckily, I found a few nice people to give me some directions. After a few connections, I finally made it to the city and met my friend. It was such a cool experience to walk out of the subway and be right in the big city!
One of my favorite things to do when traveling is walking and getting lost in a city. I have so much fun stumbling into hidden boutiques and going on crazy adventures to find a hidden gem I heard about online or from a friend. Paris, with all its beauty, had plenty to offer. I spent most of my days the same way. I would choose a neighborhood and hop from each vintage or thrift shop to the next. I would make sure to visit a museum or two as well and, of course, taste as much food as I could!
My trick to finding these vintage stores was hours and hours of Googling pre-travel. I then made a Google Map with all the stores pinned. On the day I would visit, I would make sure to ask the people who worked in the store if they had any recommendations or suggestions on shops I needed to check out. Then, I would update my Google Maps and continue to repeat this at each stop. It was so much fun to not only browse all the beautiful collections in the shops but also to talk to the people working there.
